100 free mammograms to be provided at Memorial Hospital
07-Jul-2012
Memorial Hospital is hosting seven free mammogram screening events during 2012 to provide a total of 100 free mammograms to uninsured and underinsured individuals. The free mammograms have been made possible through grant program that Memorial Hospital is participating in which is led by The Hospital Council of Northwest Ohio and the Northwest Ohio Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
This will be the second time Memorial Hospital participates in the free mammogram program. The previous free mammograms were administered at eight different screening events at Memorial Hospital from October 2011 – March 2012.
Chasity O’Neill, director of development and facilitator of the grant at Memorial Hospital, believes the free screenings are a great need in the community. “As a result of Memorial’s first participation in the Komen and hospital council free mammogram program, 91 individuals received free mammograms at Memorial Hospital,” she said.
Memorial Hospital is one of six area hospitals that participated in the free mammograms grant project. Local physicians volunteered their time to make this project a success. Those physicians include James Fanning, M.D., Scott Farrell, M.D., Michael Grillis, M.D., Jeffery Ward, D.O., Kurt Harrison, D.O., Heather Haynes, M.D., John Mauric, D.O and Mary Wonderly, M.D. Beth Gabel, C.N.P. and Mary Kuns, C.N.P. also assisted to make the screenings possible.
An appointment is required for a free mammogram, which will only be administered to individuals who are uninsured or underinsured. Call the Memorial Hospital Diagnostic Imaging Department at 419.334.6605 to schedule an appointment, or for more information. The screening events are being held in the Auxiliary of Memorial Hospital Women's Diagnostic Center.
