Department Spotlight: Diagnostic Imaging
01-Aug-2011
The Diagnostic Imaging Department is one of the busiest departments at Memorial Hospital. They offer a wide variety of services including diagnostic radiology, nuclear medicine, CT scanning, MRI, ultrasound, interventional procedures, and PET. With the recent addition of the Women’s Center, such services as digital mammography, DEXA, and select ultrasound studies are now also available to the community. In FY 2010 diagnostic imaging administered more than 40,000 procedures. On average, more than 100 procedures are performed each day. The department is looking to surpass those numbers for FY 2011.
Providing this wide range of procedures is a highly skilled team with over 500 years of experience in diagnostic imaging. With 30 employees, each department member on average has 17 years of experience.
According to Phil Hoerig, diagnostic tech, “Our department’s experience has afforded us with a diverse knowledge base that allows us to continually improve the care we provide to our patients.”
Recently, the Diagnostic Imaging staff has been working tirelessly to implement new initiatives that will enhance patient care. In July CT procedures became fully accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The department also plans to have Nuclear Medicine and MRI fully accredited by the end of the year.

Continuing to build on their recent successes, the department has also invested in new software called iConnect Access. This new software will allow physicians to securely access patient information in real-time from multiple devices. The increased accessibility will decrease response times and enhance the physician’s ability to communicate results with hospital staff and patients. By having fluid, convenient access to patients’ information and results, Memorial’s physicians will have access whenever and wherever they need it.
