ProMedica Memorial Hospital | Herbert-Perna Center for Physical Health

The 29,000 square foot Herbert-Perna Center for Physical Health opened to the public in October, 2007. It is located on the main campus of Memorial Health Care System in Fremont.

This $6.3 million, state-of-the-art center has greatly enhanced the physical and occupational health services available at Memorial Hospital. Its design provides patients and visitors with a first class facility.

The Center features a large, naturally lit exercise area complete with weight training equipment and other rehabilitation instruments. The building also houses a heated, 30' x 30' therapy pool; six private exam rooms with x-ray equipment, clinical space and two screening and testing rooms; 13 private general rehabilitation units that cater to the needs of children, adults and senior citizens, men's and women's locker rooms and a pediatric gym.

The grounds of the Herbert-Perna Center are beautifully landscaped and include the Goreman Healing Garden, with a fountain whose water originates from an artesian spring and engraved bricks that honor loved ones; a James Havens sculpture entitled, “Graceful Dancer,” an exercise path, which includes exercise stations; a as well as President Rutherford B. Hayes’ former barn, which is used for youth programs and community events.

The Herbert-Perna Center for Physical Health holds Memorial Hospital's Physical Medicine Department as well as HealthLink, which is the hospital's occupational health service.

The center hosts a comprehensive range of rehabilitation and therapeutic services, as well as agility testing.  Clinical functions available at the Herbert Perna Center include physical examinations; drug and alcohol screenings; TB tests; vaccinations; vision and hearing tests, x-rays as well as many others.

The Garden Level of the Herbert-Perna Center will house community and clinical space, including exercise and meeting rooms, and a conference center. This space will be utilized for community activities such as support groups, fitness classes, youth councils and much more. Construction of the Garden Level is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2011.

The Herbert-Perna construction project cost approximately $6.3 million. While the Hospital funded a large portion of the building project through bonds, generous contributions by local community members and businesses provided nearly $950,000 towards the center. |Read more about the project...
